Volunteer Opportunities

  • Board Trustees

Board Trustees provide strategic leadership for The Leprosy Mission Northern Ireland (TLMNI) through good governance.  We are currently seeking to recruit 3 passionate and committed individuals to join our current Board of 9 Trustees.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have the skills and experience in one of the following areas as well as generalist skills that would enhance the role of the Board:

    • Fundraising (Individual Giving & Donor Development)
    • International Development
    • Medical / Clinical
    • Property Management & Maintenance
    • Volunteer Management & Development

Board Trustees are expected to attend four Board Meetings per annum (normally a Monday evening). In addition Board Trustees may be invited to join a sub-Committee or represent TLMNI occasionally at a special event.

Meetings are currently held online. It is envisaged from the start of 2024 that Board meetings will be hybrid - held both online and in the TLMNI offices in Lisburn.

TLMNI is an explicitly Christian charity, and part of your role as a Trustee will be to represent the Mission’s purpose and ethos to external audiences, provide Christian leadership and inspire Churches and individual Christians to pray for and support the Mission’s work.

To find out more please download the documents or contact the National Director, Joanne Briggs on 028 9262 9500 or via email, joanne@tlm-ni.org.

The Leprosy Mission has a zero-tolerance towards any abuse, neglect and exploitation to all people. All Board Trustees will be expected to sign and comply with the Global Safeguarding Code of Conduct and the Global Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults policy. Further details available upon request.

  • Church Representatives

Be a voice for leprosy in your church and a vital link between the congregation and The Leprosy Mission.

Church Reps play an essential and vital role in deepening this relationship and creating long term support.

You can play a key role in spreading our message in your church and amongst your network. In doing so, you will help raise awareness, critical funds and encourage prayer support by sharing the needs of those affected by leprosy.

    Here are some ways in which church reps do this;

    • Provide regular updates on the work of TLM
    • Invite a TLM speaker to attend your church service, midweek, ladies meeting or youth group
    • Encourage your church to participate in the annual World Leprosy Sunday event
    • Fundraise by holding a coffee morning, bringing sale and return shop where items from the TLM shop can be brought to a meeting or event or organising an annual collection in your church.

No experience is necessary as full support and guidance is provided.
