World Leprosy Day 2012
Posted 22/02/12
Sunday 29th January was a special day set aside
throughout the mission to celebrate the work worldwide. World Leprosy Day is our
opportunity to get together and give thanks and praise to God for all that He
has enabled us to do in helping to eradicate leprosy and help those who live
with its consequences. This year there were many special services
throughout the province, we are hearing from lots of fellowships which took the
time to listen and learn about the work that TLM does throughout the
world.
This year our focus was on Nigeria and we made an
appeal to save projects that are lacking crucial funding, we are so thankful
that so many of you have responded so generously and we are continuing to
receive donations daily.
The annual World Leprosy Day service was again held
in Lisburn Cathedral. A good number gathered to give thanks for the work and
witness of TLMNI. We were made very welcome by the Rev Simon Genoe who led the
service with various members of staff and council taking part. The speaker this
year was Peter Hilton, the youth associate at TLMNI. He shared with us his
experiences of TLM in India and how God is really at work in that country.
Through a team visit they were able to build a house for a family affected by
leprosy, and the affect of God’s love being shown in a practical way was evident
in the families faces. Peter’s address high lighted that we as humans have
limits, there is only so much we can do and only so much we can take in our own
strength, but we don’t need to be discouraged because God doesn’t have limits,
and if we take our needs and the needs of others to Him, His limitless grace is
sufficient. This in a nutshell sums up the work ethic of TLMNI, on our own
strength our efforts are only temporal but with God firmly at the centre of the
Leprosy Mission the work will have eternal significance.
The service was closed with prayer and the offering
was dedicated to saving the work of TLM in Nigeria.
So far we have raised over £10,000 of the £40,000
needed for the WLD Nigeria appeal, thank you for all your continued prayerful
support, this money will make a big difference.
